There once was a man who felt very angry at himself. Here's what happened to him. This fellow meandered over to a support group that met weekly in a senior citizen center. He was anxious because wasn't sure how he'd be received since he was many years younger than the rest of the group there. Turned out that his willingness to face his fear and leave his comfort zone was rewarded bountifully!! The men and women who had known some of the same pain that he had experienced received him as they would a long lost brother. They talked about having the shakes, dry heaves, blacking out, and feeling lost lonely and afraid. They were humble. Never bragged about the jobs they had held though this fellow found out later that many of them had been in positions of power and prestige before they had retired.
They taught him that they had felt the same despair and incomprehensible demoralization but now their lives were filled with joy and gratitude!
They taught him that he was lovable!! They did this by loving him until he was able to love himself. One of them has just been hospitalized and may not have much time left. But the love will live on!
