The Cool Side of the Pillow

Life in Charlestown for me as a young person was mostly about going to church, going to school and going to the hockey rink. But playing hockey at the rink was really the most important thing in life to me. When I was 13 I felt crushed by the disappointment of getting cut from the team. It was a sad time for me. By this age I had already tried alcohol with a buddy when we were in New Hampshire. It was the most excitement I had felt for a long time. And alcohol temporarily helped me deal with feelings of being the hockey player who wasn't good enough to make the team.

Fast forward to 2016 and my life is great, it's "like the cool side of the pillow".  I have better coping skills and tools that allow me to handle life's disappointments, times of sadness, and times of joy.
