In the community of recovering alcoholics in Brighton, the phrase "don't drink" is sometimes substituted for hello and goodbye. It is a powerful reminder of the simplicity of the twelve step fellowship which was founded by Bill W. and Dr. Bob. Everytime a fellow recovering alcoholic says to me "don't drink" it brings me back to the most basic teaching of the 'Friends of Bill". It's what I need to hear because if I don't drink then I can't get drunk. I treasure my sobriety so I value the gentle reminder "don't drink".
