I've been told by the wise that the people who are the most content are the ones who take delight in the little things. Today the proud owner of a kabob shop was delighted that his newest customer was a man who had traveled all the way from California and had lunch at his place. His gratitude for the love his clients have for his cooking was obvious. He radiated warmth and kindness, and kindness is said to be the highest form of wisdom.
This subject of the wisdom of the elders is a rich one. I am learning to listen to them share their experiences. They teach me the importance of being a dutiful member of one's family. And they show me what it means to be available and present for family events. One friend's sister just passed away unexpectedly and he will be there for her wake and funeral and emotionally available for their family.
Many people have no problem doing the next right thing. With a clear head and a willingness to seek guidance from a Higher Power, it is simpler to discern what the next right thing is.
