Where I am from there's a passion for ice hockey. This love for the game took me to many places and gave me a fantastic gift when it helped me adjust to the culture in Minnesota where I spent my college years. Most of my fondest memories have to do with this sometimes brutal and sometimes graceful sport. I owe a debt of gratitude to my parents and coaches who guided me and supported me. They froze their "assets" in dingy, frigid rinks.
My story is like so many other athletes who found a way to belong, a way of lessening their loneliness and isolation, by joining a team.
