Montaigne's Idea

San Francisco's longshoreman philosopher Eric Hoffer admitted to liking the writings of Michel de Montaigne. One of Montaigne's ideas was that "whether an event is good or bad greatly depends on the way we perceive it". Years ago I thought that living in a homeless shelter was a horrible catastrophic event in my life. Today I see it as a fantastic experience that taught me about compassion. It was a place where I learned to give and receive love.
