I did something recommended in the book "The Monk who Sold his Ferrari". In 2008 while living at the Veterans' Shelter I told many people I would run in the Boston Marathon. I would have been too embarassed not to run it after telling so many folks. Running in a marathon taught me that you get a second wind after "hitting the wall".
I have to confess that I did have a moment when I felt I couldn't do it. This happened (in 2008) the day before the race. I wisely called a friend, Bob B., who convinced me that it would be a fun experience. It definitely was!! And I completed the race and savor the memories today.
