Whiskey Johnny

As I listen to "Whiskey Johnny" I remember why I have "hung up the gloves". The song goes--"Whiskey gave me a broken nose and whiskey made me wear old clothes!". I learned about this song in Alan Brennert's novel "Molokai" about Rachel, a young leper. It is my book of the week.

  1. Molokai was one of my book club books! Another was "The History of Love," by Nicole Krauss. Now one of my absolute favorites. I recommend it!

  3. There are three intertwining stories to follow throughout the book. One starts decades ago, concerning a Polish boy who falls in love with his neighbor, but they lose track of each other during the Holocaust. He pens a story for her, called "The History of Love." A second story is about a young girl, coping with the loss of her father due to cancer, and the fallout of his death on her family. And a third story is about a mystery man interested in translating the little-known and not widely circulated book, called "The History of Love." I can't say much more without giving away parts of the story! You must read!
