Food for the Worms
A woman in Malden told me that her final act of generosity in this lifetime would be when her body was in the ground and would now be nourishment for the worms. This leads me to reflect on the subject of physical death. My friend Leo P. once told me not to be troubled by the ashes blowing from his cigarette since they were a reminder that ashes were what I would one day be. One day my body will be ashes and my soul will be free. It will fly like the butterfly released from the cocoon.
